International studies show that monochromatic (single coloured) red light of a certain wave length stimulates the enzymes of the antioxidant protection. It also affects an increase of the glutathione peroxidase in the liver. The production of ATP, which is the fuel and energy source for cells, is being stimulated by light therapy. It has also been established that the calcium ion balance in the cells is being affected positively. The red light of the light therapy regulates oxidative processes , which in turn increase the cell metabolism and collagen synthesis , as well as the action potential of nerve cells, and furthermore stimulate the mitochondria and leucocytes and the formation of DNA and RNA in the cell nucleus. The enzymes of the antioxidant protection catalase and superoxide dismutase have an absorption maximum for red light, which is also being incorporated and utilized in the light therapy.
Hence, cell biological studies have come to the result that light therapy increases the regeneration ability of damaged and aging tissue. The effect on these aging and damaged (mechanically, thermic or by electromagnetic radiation) is even greater than on younger tissue.
Light therapy can also be used for prophylaxis. Depending on the choice of resonance modulation , light therapy can be used for specific purposes.
